Brussels, 19 January 2011 - The World Organization of Workers – WOW sent a letter to the President of Chile, Mr. Salvador Piñera, with a copy to the Minister of Interior, Mr. Rodrigo Hinzpeter, expressing serious concern over the uncertain situation of the 600 workers who provide services for the government-owned periodical "La Nación", daily signifying an important alternative in the plurality of the country's democracy in the southern part of the country. The President of the WOW, based in Brussels, Mr. Roel Rotshuizen, urged the authorised representative to listen to the voice of the workers, who believe that the daily can operate with the autonomy that, for example, the national television has been granted. Thus avoiding the dismissal for those who form a part of "La Nación."

The latest news is that they have been dismissed more than 250 employees of “La Nación”.
